Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital (ECM) has grown into the largest, most comprehensive medical facility in northwest Alabama, south central Tennessee and northeast Mississippi. The 358 bed facility is the home of northwest Alabama’s only full service cardiac program. ECM’s 24-hour emergency department serves as the primary referral center for Northwest Alabama. Rounding out ECM’s services is a complete line of medical, oncology, pulmonary, ambulatory, endoscopy, laboratory, imaging services and women and children services. There are over 200 physicians on staff representing over 42 specialty areas of medicine.
This is southern living at its best and how life is supposed to be. From the houses on the bluffs overlooking the river to the historic homes in the city's downtown area, life in the area is full of beauty. Florence is located in northwest Alabama along the Tennessee River in a two county region known as the Shoals. The area carries forth the ideals of creating a safe, family-friendly place for residents to live. With four gentle and distinct seasons, the Shoals is an outdoor lover’s dream. The river and its system of lakes offer a variety of recreational activities. Golfers can choose from a variety of public and private courses. But there's plenty to do indoors as well. The Shoals area boasts numerous museums, art galleries, theater groups, and dance studios. It is known worldwide for its music recording industry, and is home to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. The Shoals is also the birthplace of W.C.Handy (Father of the Blues) and Helen Keller. A thriving retail and manufacturing economy, a reverent sense of history and culture, superior schools, and the friendliest people in the world fashions the Shoals and offers numerous opportunities for an enhanced quality of life.
RegionalCare has invested much in the Shoals area by committing to build a replacement hospital housing 300 beds, all private rooms, worth approximately $250 Million -- pending approval of a Certificate of Need. This brand new hospital will be able to service northern Alabama and aid in physician recruitment efforts, which will create new jobs for the Shoals and surrounding area. During the first four years of affiliation, RegionalCare has agreed to make at least $33M of capital expenditure investments in the existing facilities (both ECM & Shoals) for infrastructure and maintenance requirements. With the RegionalCare partnership agreement, Coffee Health Group (owner of ECM & Shoals) was able to pay off $140 Million in debt. RegionalCare’s commitment to this community remains strong, agreeing to maintain an all local board and accelerate their vision for the future of healthcare in the Shoals with capital & expertise. RegionalCare will also become a tax paying entity contributing to the community coffers, which will provide a source of annual income not previously enjoyed by the County.
